Porsche Unleashes 911 GT3 RS

Agh! It's happening all over again. Just as Porsche launches one super-duper 911 in the shape of the Turbo (http://www.topgear.com/supercars/), along comes another that's even more exotic.

Meet the 911 GT3 RS and the latest object of our lustful attentions.

Packed with a 415bhp, 3.6-litre version of the 911's flat-six engine, the RS may not have the outright grunt of the Turbo, but it's only a fraction behind from 0-62mph at 4.2 seconds.

The top speed of 187mph is also a shade behind the Turbo's, but the RS is about so much more than just mere numbers.

Doing without the Turbo's four-wheel-drive gubbins, the RS tips the scales at 1,375kg, which is 20kg lighter than the already lithesome GT3 it's based on.

This Weight Watchers approach has resulted in 300bhp per tonne, with help from a carbon-fibre rear wing, and plastic boot lid and rear window.

With a view firmly on racing, the RS uses its light weight to make the most of its handling ability.

Porsche tells us the RS has suspension and technical features that will make it into the GT3 racer.

These features include new wheel hubs, rear suspension design and carbon-fibre body parts.

Inside, the RS serves up the minimum of necessities in the form of two lightweight bucket seats, roll cage, six-point harness seatbelts, and a fire extinguisher. So no mistaking what this car's purpose is.

You can have an RS in black or silver, but we're smitten with the lairy orange or green hues on offer that hark back to the original 911 RS of 1973.

We just need to dig down the back of the sofa and find £94,280 and we're off to the nearest Porsche dealer.
