Default Journal: Iwagumi Tank

Introduction:
I’ve always wanted something like this but as my experience was still so limited to the world of aquascaping, never was I to realize it is called Iwagumi planted tank.

It all happened while I was searching for more information about some particular plants (dwarf hairgrass and HC) that I saw someone’s Iwagumi planted tank. I know right off the bat, it was the kind of “style” I was looking for all this long, or perhaps to make thing more dramatic…love at first sight. You just know it. So after doing more research through the internet, I realized having an Iwagumi planted tank doesn’t look that simple as it is…it is definitely not for beginner. But how can you possibly stop someone falling in love.

One of the obstacles I was facing from scratch is that the main fish that will own this haven is an Asian Red Aro. It will be spending much of the time swimming on the top level of the water. So I have to watch out for the strong lighting from above that will be required when I select what kind of plant needed for this Iwagumi setup. Having a sump tank as my filtration was another obstacle I was facing. I know I will be losing lots of CO2 in the wet/dry trickle filter.

Iwagumi literally means "rock formation". This is also something I have to consider as I wouldn’t want the arowana to hurt itself from sharp edges of the selected rocks. This link which I find very useful for me to understand the brief and depth of what Iwagumi really meant. http://www.aquatic-eden.com/index.html

So I decided to go with a 160x60x60 Tank. Thks to bro GoldenFin for his wonderful Arobox .

This pic shown is a 6kg of JBL Aquabasis. Thks to Bro ragn4rok tips and advice, who given me so much advices along the way, believe me the man does know and understand a lot to the world of aquascaping.
I used up about 4 kilo of it...spreading it nicely throughout the base of the aquairum. Maybe I will leave the rest for a Nano in the future Ohh...not to forget to mention..I got rip-off while buying the JBL Aquabasis...damn the fellow...may he rot in peace

This is after I washed up a bag of 50kg silica sand...not too coarse nor fine. I probably need another 50kg of sand to make some slopes....but bear with me...my back's hurting too much...i leave it for another day to wash it and make the final hardscape.

I will have to look for rocks...big one to get the Sanzo Iwagumi theme..any1 have any idea what kind of rocks to go with?

I will do more update soon...

To reduce water spraying in your sump, try removing d spraying tray, add longer pipe to d existing return pipe or hose down into d water [ first chamber ]...later bring up d water level on d last chamber as well. Your sump should hv no single spray after this tweak, means no more CO2 lost down there. Semoga membantu
